Grand Bend 5000 Tree Project initiative

Dear OPA Residents:

I am very pleased to inform everyone of the Grand Bend 5000 Tree Project initiative.  Due to the loss of so many trees during the devastating tornado of 2014, along with the Emerald Ash Borer,  the goal of this initiative is to support the planting of native trees in the Grand Bend Area and to promote a healthy community forest by raising awareness and providing education.

The Grand Bend 5000 Trees Project initiative is supported through a partnership with Grand Bend Community Foundation, The Rotary Club of Grand Bend, The Municipality of Lambton Shores and Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA).

Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is offering a drastically reduced price for trees if orders are placed by February 28, 2015. Four to Seven foot trees are available at cost of $18 – $24!! Minimums do apply to many of the order so the OPA tree committee would like to see what interest our residents have in ordering trees, and then we can combine our orders, organize a joint delivery and then hopefully organize group planting costs.

The following flyer details the program, which includes an order form and I have attached a tree order form link from the ABCA: 5000 Trees Project January 2015

Please feel free to order directly (or get together with your neighbours).  If you are interested in ordering a smaller amount through an OPA group order, it would be appreciated if you could respond directly to Lynne Cram no later than Feb 10, 2015.

Let’s get planting in Oakwood.  It’s important that we all give thought to our next generation of native trees and this is a great initiative to support.

Regards,

Lynne
